To Vote or Not to Vote on the challenges?

Inlinkz offers a neato collection in which voters may vote for their favorite entries after a challenge is closed. We started playing with the voting option this week and it seems to work. :)

Now, the part you need to help us decide is IF we should have voting at all---do you want to do that or not? I have heard from both sides...saying, they like it and they don't like it, so chime in. I hope to hear from at least 50 of you so that we get a clear picture on whether or not we should consider using voting in the challenges.

If it is a split decision, maybe we will have both a random winner and a voting winner...I am open to doing whatever people would like the most. Don't forget to scroll down for the entry rules for Challenge 8 (Baby of Mine) and to vote (yes, we are sticking with it for now :D) for your favorite Going Goth card in Challenge 7.

Speak up and let us know what you like....:)

EDIT: Keep the opinions coming, but I am getting a general consensus that we should not continue with the open voting system....:) I am reading each comment and I will get with the DT and decide what needs to change. :)

I like the idea of voting, however, I have seen some people openly touting for votes on their blogs. I feel this is slightly unfair, especially if they have a lot of followers, as they're pretty much guaranteed to win week after week. Perhaps a compromise would be to vote once a month and randomly pick a winner the rest of the weeks? x

Yes and no. Yes, the creator of the card/project should get recognition for a job well done, for a stunning piece of art. But I think this should be voted by the design team and not everyone else since just like Maz said, the people with more followers or friends will for sure win. That's just how it is in life.

At the same time, I think it should be by random because not everyone is "experienced". Some people do a better job than others. Well, you know what I mean. Sometimes it gets pretty discouraging after playing for so long and never get noticed, recognized.

Maybe there should be two prizes...so everyone is happy, everyone gets a chance, everyone can and want to play along...

i am happy with whatever you and the dt decide on Christy. Don't get me wrong , winning is lovely but for me the best part of the challenge is seeing the DT's cards and being inspired to use my Tiddly Inks. Hugs Lou xxxx

Maybe have two winners--one based on merit and another random. Inlinkz is an excellent way to have entrants post their cards, but the voting isn't fair because those with huge numbers of family and followers will end up winning.

The DT should have an active role in voting based on creativity and design. Then have a random winner to promote and encourage participation of future challenges.

I do think that deciding by skill level is important but as the other girls have said i think that this system will be unfair to people without a lot of followers or friends.

I have to agree with the other comments posted ~ IF a winner is chosen based on votes, to be fair, it should be the DT who votes. Some people have hundreds of followers, while others only have a hand full, resulting in those with the greater number of followers winning. I think everyone should have a fair chance at winning.

I also think a random winner would be good ~ my kid's (and I'm sure there are more out there) like to play in the challenges every once in awhile, and obviously their skill level isn't up to most of those that enter, but they are excited to enter and would be thrilled if they actually won ~ this way gives them a chance as well.

I am with the majority here, the DT should decide if it is going to be done on creative merit or else go back to random generator or both of these. An open vote as it stands as the moment is a unfair to those who do not have a million followers or don't want to ask their friends to vote for them.
So that's my 2 cents.lol.

I think the DT should vote, cheers!

I personally think that the winner should be chosen by random so that everyone gets a fair chance, then as a recognition for great work the DT should choose a top 3 to have a badge on their blog, like lots of other blogs tend to do, that way not always the most experienced card makers get to win but do get recognition. I do think the voting system is abused by those who have lots of followers unfortunately, I'm happy just to enter each wk though! Hope this helps Rebekah xx

I agree with the majority of commenters here, the open voting system is unfair to those you don't have many followers or blogging friends.

DT voting or Random.org, either or both in my opinion. They both give all participants an equal chance of winning the challenge.

Either way, I'll definately be playing along again :)

Thank you for asking our opinion

Honestly, I like the random selection. I feel like the voting is tough because if a blog doesn't have a lot of followers/readers that doesn't mean that their creation isn't FANTASTIC but they may not get the votes because they don't have many readers to come and vote. I think the random selection is the most fair. OR you should leave it up to you and the Design Team to vote and not have it be an open voting aka whoever has the most friends to send the link to to say PLEASE VOTE FOR ME! I'm not a competitive person so the voting makes me feel a bit squidgy.

Just sayin' ;)

Love ya gals!!

Even as a winner, I would prefer the DT chooses if voting continues. On most challenge blogs it's random, if at all or the winner of the prize is random, and in addition the DT chooses the top cards for a badge to display on their blogs. Sometimes if one is really inspired, one may wish make to make more than one card. If winning is based on popularity rather than merit, as some people are implying, the votes would be split so it would be silly to. I think in the long run, you will get more participation if the prize is random. xxD

I think you and the design team should choose. I don't like the random option as I would prefer people to choose, it may not always be the most professional card but one that embodies what you are looking for within a particular challenge. The voting system you have at the minute will always be won by those who have loads of online friends who will come and vote so thats not a reflection on the card just their popularity.
Rant over now but you did ask us to speak up.

I think we may have our answer but I will chime in as well...bc you want to hear from all of us. :)

The voting is nice, but I do agree with the majority...a vote from the DT and a random winner would be a great alternative to asking for votes....maybe the winner from the DT could get a free image and the random winner the gift certificate....just a thought....

Anyway you decide, I will still be here and creating along with all the talented DT and fellow creators...I love TI!!

Cheers!

I personally like random org or DT voting as I agree with the majority here that one can win over and over by simply advertising for votes.

I don't like the idea of all of us voting. People usually beg barrow and steal to get their followers to come vote. Those of us with fewer followers won't have a chance.

I prefer anything than a random winner, for me is not fair that the best cards each week don't win. Using random pick in my opinion would not be valuing our cards. I usually not participate in challenge with the winner is choose randomly because my effort is not appreciate.

I don't lurve the voting. Voting involves judging, and I don't particularly love judging the work of others. Thanks for listening! :)

OH I hate seeing that someone got no votes, makes me feel bad and I always want to vote for more than one, lol. I like random because I feel then that everyone gets the same opportunity, but then some I guess feel that theirs is better. I dont know, I just like for it to be fun, and if I win I am exstatic if I dont I move on, never thinking about it again. I had no clue there was people out there soliciting votes, thats really not right. My opinion, I like the idea of two winners, one random, one voted on by dt.

I think it should be left up to the design team to vote.

I personally don't think the voting is fair. However, I don't think it should be random either... because people might not be motivated to enter the challenge! I love the idea of having the DT member pick for the winner!

Eulanda said...

If a DT member from another company decides to enter her card, chances are she's going to win because there's a reason she's a DT. She's rather experienced and good at what she does. It won't encourage people who are just learning, to enter the challenges and gain some confidence about themselves. Pretty soon all you will have are very experienced entries and your numbers will start to dwindle. What about having a challenge once a month that is a voter based challenge?

oh i like the idea of the voting but must say it would be another deadline to meet and also if you picked a top 3 and a random i would much perfer to go with I trust the impartical vote better than maybe being torn by friends entering.

I think the dt should vote that way it's not a popularity contest. But thats just my 2 cents :)

I agree with most of the other comments. It always feels great when the DT choose your card b/c of it's design/orignality, etc. but winning by random is also awesome b/c it makes it a little more fair when there are all skill levels playing. I had fun with the voting feature, but I have to admit, I was asking my friends on different sites to vote for me so I guess I'm one of those annoying ones everyone was talking about! LOL I wouldn't do that if it were an every week thing tho. It wouldn't be fair. ;)

I entered the Inlinks first challenge so can speak from experience as to how it was working, or not. Firstly, I found having everyone's card/project also tagged onto your own blog annoying rather than just convenient to vote on. I also went onto the Inlinks comment section whilst the votes were being counted as it was becoming more than obvious that what I thought to be the 'best' cards were not necessarily getting any or as many votes as I thought they might. Someone in their 'comments' was saying how much they liked this system as it didn't matter how bad your card was, that if you knew a lot of people you just got them to vote for your card regardless....and they knew a lot of people apparently!

Personally, I would rather win on merit or luck than by what is little more than cheating the system. I also think that a random selection of any entrant as a winner is also a valid 'win' as even what you yourself might consider not a particularly successful card has taken someone time and effort to create and might be the best of someone's ability.
As it stands, I would not want to enter a challenge anymore that uses this new system. I think that choosing a card on a random basis and/or by merit far preferable.
Sorry this is a long comment, but you asked for opinions! LOL.
